Giving Toasts

Over the years, we have had a lot of wedding party members ask for guidance and parameters in giving a toast, so I wanted to share what we have found to be helpful. Truthfully, there are no rules (except timing and manners), but perhaps this gets your wheels spinning on format!

A format to consider is:
• Introduction: how does the groom, or bride, or couple know you?
• Tell a story about the groom, bride, or couple. Humor is helpful.
• Tell us what you appreciate about the groom (or bride) and further, what you appreciate in his transition to meeting the bride (or groom).
• Tell us what you think the bride (or groom, if you're speaking as a friend, the bride) brings to the table and why you are excited they are together.
• Cheers.

Toasts are best kept to between 2-3 minutes, and the best suggestion we can give is to practice!
Email your toast to yourself and make sure you have it available offline or print it out in advance.
Think about this in TED Talk-style, where the audience only needs the point, not the full context or filler. The best storytelling actually starts in the middle (meaning, without the buildup). It's hard to grasp that when reflecting on a lifetime of friendship. But they truly are the most captivating of toasts.
Please let me know if you have any questions at all and if after practicing, you're having a hard time sticking to the 2-3 minutes, reach out, and I will be glad to help.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

See you at the rehearsal!
